Auto Industry Continues with Positive Growth Passenger Vehicles Sales Reflect Base Effect

Production

The industry produced a total 10,882,706 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle in April-July 2018 as against 9,325,907 in April-July 2017, registering a growth of 16.69 percent over the same period last year.

Domestic Sales

The sale of Passenger Vehicles grew by 13.32 percent in April-July 2018 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles, the sales for Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicle & Vans grew by 12.81 percent, 13.15 percent and 19.72 percent respectively in April-July 2018 over the same period last year.

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 45.42 percent in April-July 2018 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) increased by 64.73 percent and Light Commercial Vehicles grew by 35.57 percent in April-July 2018 over the same period last year.

Three Wheelers sales increased by 51.82 percent in April-July 2018 over the same period last year. Within the Three Wheelers, Passenger Carrier sales registered a growth of 61.35 percent and Goods Carrier grew by 20.43 percent in April-July 2018 over April-July 2017.

Two Wheelers sales registered a growth at 13.94 percent in April-July 2018 over April-July 2017. Within the Two Wheelers segment, Scooters, Motorcycles and Mopeds grew by 9.01 percent, 16.97 percent and 8.10 percent respectively in April-July 2018 over April-July 2017.

Exports

In April-July 2018, overall automobile exports grew by 26.56 percent. While Passenger Vehicles exports declined by (-) 5.90 percent, Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers registered a growth of 38.23 percent, 69.20 percent and 29.80 percent respectively in April-July 2018 over the same period last year.
