Against the backdrop of India's sustained economic growth, with real GDP growth of 7.6% in FY26, the
automobile industry delivered an exceptional performance, achieving new domestic and export
milestones. Its contribution to the Indian economy exceeded ?22.75 lakh crore and accounted for
about 15% of GST collections, reaffirming its pivotal role in economic growth, development and
employment. These milestones demonstrate the sector's resilience, innovation, and sustained
growth.
The year 2025-26 witnessed highest-ever domestic sales performance. The Passenger Vehicles
segment posted sales of 4.64 million units, reflecting a growth of 7.9% over the previous year. Exports
from this category also achieved their highest-ever levels, at 0.9 million units, registering a robust
17.5% increase year-on-year.
The Two-Wheeler segment grew by 10.7% to reach 21.7 million units, surpassing the earlier peak of 21
million units achieved in FY 2019. Exports stood at 5.18 million units, up by 23.4% over the previous year.
The Commercial Vehicle industry also registered a double-digit growth of 12.6% in domestic sales,
closing the year at about 10.8 lakh units. Exports also rose by 17.4% to 0.95 lakh units.
The Three-Wheeler industry achieved domestic sales of 8.36 lakh units, with a growth of 12.8%.
Exports increased by more than 50% to 4.6 lakh units.
