SIAM Hosts 3rd Automotive Taxation Conference 2026 to Shape a Future-Ready Tax Ecosystem

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) organised the 3rd SIAM Automotive Taxation Conference 2026, themed "Bharat AutoTax: Steering Policy, Technology and Growth." The conference deliberated on policy reforms, digital transformation and emerging global taxation trends shaping the automotive industry. It also addressed agile tax policies, transfer pricing, Pillar Two, TDS reforms, audit and dispute resolution, and the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in tax administration and compliance. Mr Sanjeev Agarwal, Chairman, SIAM Direct Tax Group and Head, Taxation & Customs, BMW India, said, "Tax is no longer just a compliance function. It is increasingly a strategic enabler, supporting investment decisions, supply chain resilience, risk management, competitiveness and trust with stakeholders. Compliance must become seamless, governance must become proactive, policies must remain agile, and trust must become real." In his special address, Mr Vivek Johri, Senior Advisor, KPMG India, said, “The automobile industry is changing rapidly, and this presents an opportunity to align the tax framework with the technologies and business models driving the sector today. The industry looks forward to working closely with the government to build a shared understanding of the key issues and support a more streamlined tax environment.”

SIAM Clarifies Media Reports Citing Partial Excerpts of Its Communication on Fuel Quality

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has taken note of certain media reports that have cited excerpts from a SIAM communication, with specific and selective focus on chloride and sulphur content in fuel. SIAM wishes to clarify the matter and place it in its correct context for the benefit of the public and all stakeholders. Fuel quality testing under the prevailing regulatory framework is a rigorous and comprehensive process, covering more than 150 parameters and is undertaken by OMCs.

Auto Industry Sales Performance of June 2026 and Q1 (April–June 2026)

a) Passenger vehicles • Passenger Vehicles posted its highest ever sales of Q1, in FY 2026-27, with 1.27 million units, with 25.9% growth over Q1 of FY 2025-26. • The share of Utility Vehicles (UVs) in the Passenger Vehicle segment has now grown to about 68%, with UVs posting a growth of 28.6%, followed by passenger Cars with 21.3% in Q1 of 2026-27, over Q1 of 2025-26. • Passenger Vehicles saw their highest ever exports in Q1 of 2026-27 of 2.22 Lakh units registering a growth of 8.8% over Q1 of 2025-26. Export growth in this segment was driven by good demand from Latin America though there is an impact on exports to Middle East. Rising demand from Europe & Japan has also contributed to the overall uptick.

SIAM Marks World Environment Day with 6th International Conference on Climate Action and Low-Carbon Mobility

Marking World Environment Day, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) today organized the 6th International Conference on “Climate Action: Accelerating India’s Transition to a Low-Carbon Future,” reaffirming the Indian automobile industry’s commitment to sustainable development, climate responsibility and low-carbon mobility. The conference brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academia, research institutions, and sustainability experts to discuss strategies for advancing climate action and accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility. Discussions focused on key decarbonization enablers for the entire automobile value chain, including alternate and low-carbon fuels, circular economy practices, and sustainable manufacturing.
