Production
The industry produced a total 19,841,097 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers and two wheelers in April-January 2016 as against 19,636,580 in April-January 2015, registering a marginal growth of 1.04 percent over the same period last year.
Domestic Sales
The sales of Passenger Vehicles grew by 8.13 percent in April-January 2016 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles, Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicles and Vans grew by 10.18 percent, 3.20 percent and 1.86 percent respectively during April-January 2016 over the same period last year.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 9.43 percent in April-January 2016 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered a growth at 30.19 percent while Light Commercial Vehicles declined by (-) 2.52 percent during April-January 2016 over the same period last year.
Three Wheelers sales declined by (-) 2.94 percent in April-January 2016 over the same period last year. Passenger Carrier & Goods Carrier sales declined by (-) 2.37 percent & (-) 5.50 percent respectively in April-January 2016 over April-January 2015.
Two Wheelers sales registered a marginal growth at 1.35 percent during April-January 2016 over April-January 2015. Within the Two Wheelers segment, Scooters grew by 11.01 percent while Motorcycles and Mopeds dropped by (-) 2.18 percent and (-) 5.02 percent respectively in April-January 2016 over April-January 2015.
Exports
In April-January 2016, overall automobile exports grew by 1.61 percent. Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers registered a growth of 1.32 percent, 18.36 percent, 3.03 percent and 0.89 percent respectively in April-January 2016 over April-January 2015.
