Automotive Industry is one of the main pillars of the Indian Economy. It has very strong backward & forward linkages and is a key driver for country’s growth. The Indian Automotive Industry contributes about 6 per cent to the country’s GDP, around 35 per cent to the Manufacturing GDP, supports over 4 million jobs directly and as many as 27 million more jobs indirectly. With the pro-active support from the Government of India, the Indian Automotive Industry has been able to withstand the severe impact of the Covid pandemic in the last two years. Government of India’s support has been phenomenal, especially through the introduction of FAME and PLI Schemes, as these are helping the Auto Industry to smoothly transit into the next realm of Advanced Automotive Technologies and become self-reliant. While the Industry is working hard to get back to the growth path, as being envisioned in the Government of India’s Vision of ‘Amrit Kaal’ from 2022 to 2047, the Indian Auto Industry continues to face several headwinds in terms of geo-political uncertainties, supply side challenges, high commodity prices, high interest rates, increase in fuel prices and low market demand in some of the segments.
