  • On-the-Spot Painting Competition & Commemorative Function of Road Safety Club

    Today on 19th Feb 2020, as part of Delhi Police Week 2020 celebrations, Delhi Traffic Police organised an ‘on-the-spot’ painting competition and commemorative function of the road safety club at India Gate C-Hexagon lawns.  Sh. Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Sh. Taj Hassan , Spl. CP/Traffic and Sh. R.S. Krishnia, Spl. CP/L & O (South) were the guest of honours on the occasion.

    Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Amulya Patnaik emphasised on the importance of inculcating correct road user behaviour in the minds of youngsters so that by the time they grow up they imbibe good road safety values. He appreciated the efforts on the part of Delhi Traffic Police especially the Road Safety Cell in spreading road safety awareness among the masses as well as school children, which has gone a long way in reducing the number of fatalities on Delhi roads in the year 2019. The Commissioner of Police stated that the decline in the number of fatal accidents i.e. 1463 in the year 2019 from the previous year’s (i.e. 2018) 1690 is a pointer to the fact that there is a drastic reduction of 224 deaths i.e 14% reduction in road accidents and Delhi Traffic Police has been able to achieve this feat after a span of 30 years. Similarly, decrease of 905 (-14%) has been registered in the number of accidents in Delhi in the year 2019.  In the year 2019 the accident figure stood at 5610 whereas in 2018 the total number of accidents in Delhi was 6515.

    Around 800 students from over 20 schools, from Primary, Middle and Senior category, in Delhi participated in the “on-the-spot painting competition” based on road safety related topics. A team of faculty members from Delhi College of Arts, Tilak Marg; Deptt. of Arts, Jamia Milia Islamia University and Capital College of Fine Arts, Rohini assessed the paintings for each category and adjudged the first, second  and third prize winners in each category. The winners in each category were awarded prizes by the chief guest.

    On the occasion, prizes were also given to the first, second and third prize winners of the final competitions i.e., Essay Writing, Extempore Speech and Poster Making competitions on road safety related topics organised in connection with School Road Safety Awareness Campaign 2019-20, launched by worthy CP Delhi in October 2019.

    In addition, the Road Safety Rolling Trophy along with cheque for Rs. 15,000/- was awarded to Gyan Mandir Public School, Naraina Vihar, which was adjudged the best school that had made maximum contribution towards promotion of road safety among the masses by organising innovative awareness campaigns involving students and schools. Tinu Public School, Sangam vihar was adjudged the runner up school and was felicitated on the occasion with a cheque for Rs. 10,000/- and a commendation certificate. All the prizes and cash rewards were sponsored by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
